A Simple Call at the End of the Year

An honorary consulate is, in many ways, a title.

Its role is clear and specific: to build bridges—between Georgia and Luxembourg, between people, projects and opportunities.

But the end of the year invites a different kind of reflection.

The Christmas period is not only about diplomacy, tradition or celebration. It is also a time when loneliness becomes more visible. Not dramatic, not loud—just present. An elderly family member. Someone without close relatives. A person who is rarely mentioned, rarely invited, rarely asked how they are.

At this moment in the year, kindness does not require a role, a function or a title. It requires attention.

A visit.

A phone call.

A short message that says: you are not forgotten.

As we close 2025 and look toward the year ahead, I simply wish to use this space to invite that gesture. Not as an obligation, but as a choice. One that costs little, yet can mean a great deal.

Bridges between countries matter.

But so do bridges between people—especially those who may be standing alone.

I wish you a peaceful Christmas period and a New Year that begins with humanity and care.

With sincere regards,

Peter Sodermans

Honorary Consul of Georgia in Luxembourg
